This variety of giant hardy bamboo is one of the most vigorous and fastest growing.  It resembles P. Bambusoides except the culms have thinner walls and there is generally a white powdery band beneath each node with gray green mature culms.  Vivax has excellent edible shoots and is the fastest to reach timber size and spectacular groves.
