Bory
is a little known form of black bamboo that deserves wide recognition. The culms
are not pure black but instead develop spots or patches of dark color. When the
culms are cut and seasoned, the green sections turn a straw color, and the spots
show cloudlike shades of brown and ebony. In Japan this bamboo is used for
teahouse rafters and special utensils. Some feel this bamboo has terrific
potential for specialty pole production such as fishing poles.
